A Test-Waveform View of the Quadratic Design of FIR Filters
- ABSTRACT:
-
This paper suggests that when a test system in which an FIR filter is
embedded is driven by a random-process input with a suitably chosen
power spectrum, the system output power becomes a suitable quantity
for constraint or minimization in a numerical optimization of the
filter coefficients. Each such combination of test confuguration and
test-input spectrum eventually corresponds to one constraint (or the
objective function) in a quadratic optimization, which is here cast
into the form of a semidefinite program for numerical optimization.
Illustrated here by the design of a simple lowpass FIR filter, this
method can be generalized to handle many types of filters and
constraints.
